From Other Libraries

Summit

If we don't own an item, you might still be able to get it through our Summit partnership with regional libraries. Simply search the catalog, sign in, and place a request. You'll be emailed when the item is ready and we'll hold it for 7 days.
Summit items can be delivered to Forest Grove or Hillsboro.

Summit offers quick regional book requests while ILLiad offers worldwide requests of articles, books, and more

Interlibrary Loan

If you can't find something at Pacific or Summit, we can help you get it from other libraries for free. We deliver to Pacific campuses and home addresses for distance learners.

Register

The first time you log into ILLiad, you will be redirected to register your account. You will use your current PUNet ID and password. We use ILLiad for loans and need your current contact information to get items to you. The first time you place a request, you'll need to register.

Once you do, you'll be able to:

  • Request items from libraries worldwide
  • Request copies of print or microfilm articles from Pacific
  • Access article PDFs
  • Manage requests

Interlibrary Loan is only for our current students, faculty, and staff. Alumni can contact staff about copies of print journals.

Requests

We provide research materials of all types, but not required course textbooks. You can place requests from our catalog and databases or by filling out the request form for articles or other items.

Arrival time varies, but articles may take 2 to 3 days. Physical loans can take 10 to 14 days, depending on where they come from. Please plan ahead!

Loaning libraries set the due dates and renewals so they vary. Fines may apply for lost or damaged items. Articles are available for 60 days, so be sure to download them before they expire!

Additional Options

To request items that are not currently available to you, you have several options:

These services are offered to current Pacific University faculty, staff, and students.

Once you’ve requested an item, the Library staff will figure out the best way to get it to you based on price, format, and  availability. Unfortunately, not everything will be available as many libraries are closed or not loaning at this time.

When considering your request, we’ll choose from the following:

  • Non-returnable purchasing for physical materials: For Interlibrary Loan requests for a physical resource that is less than $50, Interlibrary Services may purchase a copy of the item and send it directly for you to keep. Requests sent to Collection Services that are less than $50 may be taken over by Interlibrary Services and purchased for you unless an electronic copy was requested. At times, we may request that books that are individually under $50 be returned to the library, in cases where they would be valuable to the library collection and/or the total of requests submitted at any one time exceeds $50.
  • Purchasing of articles and book chapters: Requests for articles and book chapters placed in ILLiad will continue to be sent to other libraries to fill. For requests that cannot be filled by other libraries, we will purchase articles or book chapters for patrons, as we normally do.
  • Request a digital resource: Requests for digital resources like streaming videos, ebooks, or other resources will be considered based on cost, availability, and license terms.
  • Physical resources that cost more than $50: If we are unable to fulfill a request as an e-resource, we will research the possibility of acquiring the physical version as “eventually returnable.” You will need to return the item when the library reopens, either in-person or via mail with a prepaid return.
  • Temporary access to e-resource offerings: We are continually reviewing and adding new resources and temporary expanded access offerings to the Databases A-Z list.

If you have questions or concerns about access to materials, email libraryhelp@pacificu.edu.
